We are proud to celebrate 95 years of serving the legal profession and the people of Utah! Since its establishment in 1931, the Bar has been dedicated to upholding justice, promoting professional excellence, and supporting access to legal services. Now, as we approach this milestone anniversary on March 23, 2026, we invite you—our licensees, legal professionals, and community partners—to join us in a year-long celebration honoring our shared history and looking toward the future.
Throughout the coming year, we will highlight the impact of the Bar, recognize those who have shaped the legal profession in Utah, and showcase the evolving role of attorneys in advancing justice. There will be special events, historical features, and ways for you to engage—both in person and online.

95th Anniversary Timeline
Milestones
Oral Histories
In celebration of our 95th anniversary, we are launching a special initiative to capture and preserve the personal stories and experiences of our licensees. From landmark cases and pivotal career moments to lasting mentorships and professional friendships, your story is part of the Bar’s legacy.
To honor this milestone, the Bar will produce a series of 20- to 30-minute oral history video interviews. These recordings will be housed on the Bar’s YouTube Channel, serving as a permanent archive for future generations. The first oral history recorded is of former Bar Executive Director John Baldwin.
All current and former licensees of the Bar are invited to participate in this project. If you are interested in being interviewed, please contact Communications Director, Jennifer Weaver, at jweaver@utahbar.org to schedule a recording session.

Activities & Memories
Between 1973 and 1997, Utah’s judiciary underwent a historic transformation—from a fragmented court network to a nationally respected, unified system. The March 1998 Utah Judicial Council History Report commemorates this era of groundbreaking reform, leadership, and innovation. Honored by the Utah State Bar, it marks a legacy of vision, resilience, and institutional excellence.
The creation and development of the Utah Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) are important parts of this story. Read about the account that begins with an examination of the pressures within and outside the court system leading to creation of the Council and review the reasons that some prominent Utah judges were opposed to both the Council and the AOC.
