CLE Credit for Pro Bono Services

CLE Credit for Pro Bono Services

Under Utah Supreme Court Rules of Professional Practice Rule 1-619, attorneys who provide pro bono legal services may be eligible to earn Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credit.

Under Utah Supreme Court Rules of Professional Practice Rule 1-619, attorneys who provide pro bono legal services may be eligible to earn Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credit. A lawyer may be awarded a maximum of two CLE credits per Compliance Cycle for providing Pro Bono Legal Services, or for mentoring another lawyer or a law student who is providing Pro Bono Legal Services.

To qualify, the services must be referred from a Utah court, the Utah State Bar, or a sponsoring entity, and must remain under the direction of that referring organization. One elective CLE credit hour is awarded for either providing the equivalent of five hours of Pro Bono Legal Services, or for mentoring a lawyer or law student on an entire pro bono matter of at least five hours.

Click on the Button below to apply for credit.

Once your form has been submitted, we will contact the organization where you volunteered to confirm your service. Once your service has been verified, we will approve the hours and forward them directly to the MCLE department so the credit can be applied to your account. No further action is required from you.

However, if you do not see the credit reflected in your MCLE transcript, we recommend reaching out to the MCLE department at staff@mcleutah.org. Please note that their team handles a high volume of requests, particularly near the end of the licensing year, so it may take a few days to receive a response. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
