Utah State Bar Announces Law Day 2026 Celebration: The Rule of Law and the American Dream

SALT LAKE CITY, April 27, 2026 — The Utah State Bar, in partnership with its Young Lawyers Division (YLD) and Utah Law Related Education, is hosting a Law Day celebration on Friday, May 1, 2026, at the Hyatt Regency Salt Lake City. This year’s theme, “The Rule of Law and the American Dream,” highlights the foundational role of law in preserving opportunity, fairness, and justice for all.
The event begins with networking at 11:30 a.m., followed by a plated lunch at 11:45 a.m. A continuing legal education (CLE) program and awards presentation runs through 1:30 p.m. Lawyers will be eligible for 1 hour of professionalism & civility CLE credit (pending approval).
The special program features a distinguished CLE panel with the Honorable Samuel Alba, retired United States Magistrate Judge for the United States District Court for the District of Utah, and Tyler Young, President-Elect of the Bar. The discussion will explore the enduring importance of the rule of law in shaping and sustaining the American Dream.
“Our legal system is the framework that ensures fairness, protects individual rights, and fosters opportunity,” said Bar President Kim Cordova. “Law Day is an opportunity to reflect on these principles and recommit ourselves, as legal professionals and as citizens, to upholding the rule of law in our communities.”
A highlight of the annual celebration will also recognize excellence within Utah’s legal community. Awards presented at the event include Young Lawyer of the Year, Law Firm of the Year, Pro Bono Publico awards for practitioners and firms, and the Liberty Bell Award, which honors non-lawyers who have made significant contributions to the justice system.
“Law Day is especially meaningful for young lawyers as we step into roles that shape the future of the profession,” said Alex Vandiver, YLD President. “It’s a chance to celebrate service, mentorship, and the responsibility we share in advancing access to justice.”
Law Day is a national observance dedicated to celebrating the rule of law and its role in American society. The Bar’s annual event brings together legal professionals, judges, and community leaders to engage in meaningful dialogue and recognize outstanding contributions to the legal field.
