Utah State Bar Launches Constitution Day Webpage to Promote Civic Education, Community Engagement

SALT LAKE CITY, August 20, 2025 – The Utah State Bar is proud to announce the launch of a new Constitution Day webpage designed to engage families, lawyers, educators, and community members in celebrating the nation’s founding document. This digital resource provides tools and opportunities to deepen understanding of the U.S. Constitution while encouraging active citizen participation.
Constitution Day, observed annually on September 17, commemorates the signing of the U.S. Constitution in 1787. The federal observance was enacted in 2004 to promote awareness of the principles that underpin the American system of government. Each year, schools and institutions across the country recognize this day as an opportunity to reflect on the rights and responsibilities of citizenship.
The Bar’s webpage offers:
- A downloadable copy of the Constitution for personal or classroom use.
- A calendar of events for September, including weekly recommended activities for lawyers and the public to better acquaint themselves with “the law of the land.”
- Interactive, family-friendly digital games that bring constitutional principles to life.
- Lesson plans and supplemental resources for K–12 teachers to support classroom instruction.
- Opportunities for lawyers to attend two Continuing Legal Education (CLE) panels focused on constitutional law.
- A volunteer lawyer classroom program, where attorneys can sign up to visit participating schools and engage students in conversation about the Constitution’s structure and the rights it guarantees. Teachers may also register to host a volunteer lawyer in their classrooms.
“We are proud to support civic education that emboldens citizens with knowledge about our country’s founding and the rights and privileges that we should all work together to protect,” said Elizabeth Wright, executive director. “By engaging families, students, and lawyers in meaningful conversations about the Constitution, we strengthen our communities and our democracy.”
The Constitution Day webpage is intended as both an educational hub and a call to action. By bringing lawyers into classrooms and offering accessible resources to families and teachers, the Bar hopes to foster a deeper appreciation for constitutional rights while encouraging active, informed involvement in civic life.
This initiative marks the first step in the Bar’s broader commitment to public civic education, aimed at empowering communities to understand the role and purpose of the judiciary in their daily lives. Through continued programming and outreach, the Bar seeks to inspire stronger civic engagement across Utah.
