Voter Information for the 1st Division
Candidates for the 1st Division:
I have applied to be reelected as a Commissioner of the Utah State Bar (USB) representing attorneys in the First Judicial District because I believe that successful people have an obligation to give back . . . to their community, their country and their profession. I joined The Florida Bar in 1980, the Utah State Bar in 2000 and the Idaho State Bar in 2005. I have served on a variety of community nonprofit boards in Cache Valley since 2001. I currently serve on the USB’s Mandatory CLE Board and the USB Board of Governors. I was president of the Cache County Bar Association in 2006-2007 and a member of the USB’s Fall Forum 2010 planning committee. My goal as a USB Commissioner is to continually remind policy makers in Salt Lake City that there are lawyers – and clients – away from Utah’s major metropolitan areas who deserve the same services and opportunities as those who live and work on the Wasatch Front. This includes my fervent belief that persons selected as judges in the First Judicial District should possess the strong community roots developed from years of living and working in the First Judicial District before their selection. I also think it is important for the USB to guard against increases in annual dues by running a lean, effective operation.
