The Bar Commission is soliciting nominations to the office of Bar Commissioner from the 3rd Division ,which consists of Salt Lake, Summit, and Tooele counties, to fill the unexpired term of James D. Gilson pursuant to his resignation as a commissioner after his election as Bar President-elect. The term of this successful candidate will expire in July, 2015.
To be eligible for the office of commissioner from the 3rd Division, the nominee’s business mailing address must be in the division as shown by the records of the Bar. Applicants must be nominated by a written petition of ten or more members of the Bar in good standing whose business mailing addresses are in the 3rd Division.

Completed petitions must be submitted to John Baldwin, Executive Director, no later than September 13, 2013 by 5:00 p.m. Ballots will be e-mailed on or about September 27th with balloting to be completed and ballots received by the Bar office by 5:00 p.m. October 11th.
In order to reduce out-of-pocket costs and encourage candidates, the Bar will provide the following services at no cost:
- Space for up to a 500-word campaign message plus a photograph on the Utah Bar Website, which is due September 13, 2013;
- A set of mailing labels for candidates who wish to send a personalized letter to the lawyers in the 3rd Division who are eligible to vote; and
- A one-time email campaign message up to 500 words which will be sent by the Bar to lawyers in the 3rd Division within three business days of receipt from the candidate but will be sent out by the Bar no sooner than September 16th, 2013.
