NOMINEES ANNOUNCED FOR HIGHLAND AND ALPINE JUSTICE COURTS VACANCIES
Highland, UT—The Utah County Nominating Commission has selected four nominees for pending vacancies at the Highland and Alpine City justice courts. The positions will replace Judge Darwin R. Poulsen who has announced his retirement effective April 1, 2014.
Following are the nominees followed by place of employment and residence:
·Honorable Carolyn Elease Howard, J.D., Saratoga Springs Justice Court Judge, Associate Professor, Utah Valley University, Attorney at Law, Provo.
·Honorable Sydney Jayne Magid, J.D., Salt Lake City Justice Court Judge, Attorney at Law, Salt Lake City.
·Honorable Douglas John Nielsen, J.D., Lehi City Justice Court Judge, Attorney at Law, Spanish Fork
·James Mark Smedley, J.D., Attorney at Law, Heber City Prosecutor, Heber City Attorney, Charleston Town Attorney, Heber City.
A comment period will be held through April 9, before a final candidate is selected by the Highland and Alpine City Mayors, who have 30 days to make an appointment, which is subject to ratification by the Highland City Council. The Utah Judicial Council must then certify the appointments.
