JUSTICE COURT BOARD PRESENTS COURT AWARDS
St. George, UT—Two judges and a court employee were recognized on April 18, 2014, for their service to Utah’s justice courts during the Annual Conference of the Justice Court Judges in St. George, Utah.
Orem City Justice Court Judge Reed Parkin was presented with the 2014 Justice Court Judge of the Year award. Judge Parkin was recognized for his outstanding efforts on behalf of justice courts in Utah and for furthering the professional and legal competence of Utah Justice Court judges.
The 2014 Justice Court Service award was presented to Judge Jody Petry in recognition of her outstanding commitment to fellow judges and to the Utah judiciary. Judge Petry serves the justice courts in Naples and Uintah County.
The Amicus Curiae Award, or friend of the court award, was presented to Robert Godfrey for his outstanding service to Utah justice courts, judges, and staff. Godfrey is conference coordinator for the Administrative Office of the Courts.
Utah’s justice courts are established by municipalities and counties. These courts have the authority to handle class B and C misdemeanors, violations of ordinances, small claims, and infractions committed within their territorial jurisdiction. The Justice Court awards are determined by the Board of Justice Court judges.
