PARK CITY BAR ASSOCIATION MEETING
January 13, 2000

Members in Attendance:Wendy Faber, Christina Miller, Alex Natt, Gary Nielsen & Dwayne Vance

1.Meeting called to order

2.Minutes from December 9, 1999 meeting reviewed and approved

3.Discussion of compilation and maintenance of membership list by Treasurer, and assistance that can be given by other members in compiling the list

4.Discussion of Spring CLE & Ski at Deer Valley

a.Date changed from March 17, 2000, to March 31, 2000

b.Keybank may be making a $2,500 donation (Bankone has made donation in the past)

c.All Members need to try to obtain additional sponsors

i.Christina and Dwayne will contact Scott Buchanan (High Country Title), Jess Reid, Bill Coleman and Joe Tesch

ii.Gary will contact Associated Title

iii.Wendy will contact Lewis Wolcott and Airtouch

iv.Alex will contact Westlaw & Lexis

5.Discussion of website

a.Wendy reported that the Utah State Bar will post our CLE functions on its website for free; Toby Brown also stated to Wendy that he will update and maintain the PC Bar website for free if we forward him minutes of meetings and otherwise keep him informed of what is going on

b.Alex will follow-up with Toby re: actually setting up the PC Bar website for reasonable fee

c.Gary referred Alex to two other individuals who can set up the website

d.Need to inquire whether Toby can put link on Utah State Bar website to local bar sites such as ours

6.CLE report from Alex

a.DUI CLE cancelled last month because only three individuals RSVP'ed and the presenter was driving up from SLC

b.Five CLE functions were held in five consecutive weeks at the end of the year; generally no more than four or so attended at any time, although Gary was a faithful attendee

c.CLE's have been tough to plan because no one RSVP's, they either show up or they don't

d.Historically have had small groups consistently, and on some occasions have had some good sized groups

e.Discussion of prior advertising and notice given to all members of CLE's

f.Alex will follow-up re: ability to program all of members' fax numbers in his office's fax machine for purposes of faxing out notices

g.Videos are generally readily available for CLE's, but when the end of the year approaches it is wise to reserve them in advance; efforts will also be made to have live presenters

h.DUI CLE will be held in February; if written notice of the date/time is given to Christina, she will pass it on to the public prosecutors and defenders who would be likely to attend even though not necessarily members of the PC Bar yet

i.CLE's may be a way to advertise and increase membership in Wasatch County; perhaps use the Winter Social as the next big push instead of the DUI CLE

j.Requests have been received for an immigration law CLE; Wendy suggested Dave Littlefield in SLC as a presenter; perhaps the immigration law CLE can be held in early March depending upon what date the DUI CLE is held in February

k.Need to communicate to membership that support of the various CLE functions is necessary in order for such functions to continue; Alex will draft a letter for Wendy's signature to that effect addressed to all of the members

l. Motion made and carried that attempts be made to have monthly CLE events, and that notice be given to all members

7.Wendy received a letter from John Baldwin re: nominations for the Dorothy Merrill Brothers Award; Christina will fax the letter to all members

8.Wendy is still checking on ability to have a PC Bar member elected as a State Bar Commissioner

9.Wendy has publication from ABA re: law day on May 1

a.Christina will send letter to the local schools re: potential assembly on law day

b.Christina will also send letter to members

10.Report from Christina re: teaching in local high schools last month

11.Derek Pullan will contact Wendy re: increasing participation of Wasatch County attorneys

12.Discussion of Winter Social

a.Prior tentatively planned date of Thursday evening, January 20, 2000, has to be cancelled because of conflict with Sundance Film Festival

b.Winter Social planned for Thursday evening, February 10, 2000; Sabra (from Christina's office) will pick some potential locations (such as possibly Mother Urbans) and call the Board

13.Wendy reported that she had talked to Charles Brown about teleconferencing between Park City and SLC re: CLE functions; she is going to meet further with Charles

14.Tuesday Night Bar report from Christina

a.Commitments from lawyers have been poor; we need more help

b.Christina to write letter to Charles Brown re: Tuesday Night Bar for potential discussion/promotion of in Utah Bar Journal

15.Nothing further to report at this time on the Summer CLE & Golf activity, although such an activity will be pursued; Christina will contact Joe Jaffaria re: golf activity
