ELECTION HANDBOOK OF THE YOUNG LAWYERS DIVISION OF THE UTAH STATE BAR

For the Election of Division Officers for the Year 2010-2011

DIVISION OFFICERS
The President, President-Elect, Secretary and Treasurer comprise the officers of the Division. They meet on a regular basis to organize and carry out the activities of the Division. For an explanation of the respective duties of these three officers see Article III of the Bylaws.

ELECTION RULES

1. The President-Elect, Secretary and Treasurer shall be elected by the general membership of the Division.

2. A nominee for any office must be eligible. Please see Article III, section 2 of the Bylaws for eligibility rules.

3. Notice of Election shall be given by publication in the Young Lawyers section of the Utah Bar Journal, by email or by direct mail to the Division members. The notice shall: (1) advise that nominations for the offices are being accepted at a date designated by the Officers; (2) include the name and address of the person to whom nominations should be sent; (3) include a description of the offices to be filled; (4) include the deadline for filing nominations; (5) advise that a copy of these Election Rules will be made available on request to any person contemplating running for office.

4. Nominations and platform statements shall be made in conformity with Article III, section 3 of the Bylaws.

5. The elections shall be carried out pursuant to Article III of the Bylaws.

6. Ballots will be counted by the current Past-President of the Division or his or her designee, the current President of the Division or his or her designee, and the current President-Elect of the Division or his or her designee. In the event of a tie for any office, the matter will be submitted to the Executive Council for a vote and the individual with the greatest number of votes of the Executive Council shall be declared the winner.

7. Each candidate may obtain one mailing list of the Division's membership at the cost of the Division.

8. The new officers of the Division will take office at the 2010 Summer Convention of the Utah State Bar in Sun Valley, Idaho.
