Policies and Procedures
Officers
Chairperson, vice chairperson, secretary, treasurer
- Each year at the section’s annual meeting, a new treasurer is
elected. That person will serve four successive one year terms, in consecutive
offices of treasurer, secretary, vice chairperson and chairperson
- Officers’ annual terms of service commence with section’s
annual meeting
- Officers carry out responsibilities described in the section "Duties
of Section Officers"
Continuing Legal Education
- Provide opportunity for section members to satisfy substantially all
of the Utah State Bar Mandatory Continuing Legal Education requirements
through attendance at section-sponsored seminars
- Monthly CLE luncheons with topics selected by section officers (after
considering input from section members)
- Annual section meeting (typically a half-day seminar with an update
of case law from Utah Supreme Court and Utah Court of Appeals, legislation
and other topics)
- Sponsor sessions at Utah State Bar mid-year meeting and annual meeting
Legislation
- Utah State Bar Governmental Relations Committee
- Section leadership entertains input from section members; makes good
faith evaluation of pending legislation; and makes recommendations to
support, oppose or be neutral on legislation of general interest to
section members
- Vice chairperson of section serves on and gives input from section
leadership to Utah State Bar Governmental Relations Committee
- If necessary, form ad hoc committees to address legislation of general
interest to real property practitioners (uniform laws, etc.)
Finances
- Section officers establish rates for section dues and for CLE presentations
(monthly lunches and annual section meeting)
- Section officers approve expenditures for seminars, special projects,
donations, reimbursements for travel, lodging and meals for guest speakers
at section-sponsored seminars.
- Charge “no shows” at section-sponsored CLE presentations
