Minutes of March 13, 2002 Meeting

The Executive Committee of the Litigation Section met on Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at 8:00 a.m., at the Law and Justice Center in Salt Lake City.

Attendance. Executive Committee members present were Clay Simms, Mike Petrogeorge, Frank Carney, and Wayne Klein.

Approval of Minutes. The minutes from the last meeting were reviewed and approved.

Southern Utah Members. We discussed recruiting regional representatives, especially in St. George. We also need Executive Committee members from Cache County and the Uintah Basin. Wayne Klein will look at the membership list for possible Executive Committee members in the Uintah Basin; Deno Himonas will check on a Southern Utah member to ask.

Mid-Year Meeting in St. George (March 21- 23). All is set for the St. George meeting on March 21-23.

MUJI. FJC discussed. Wayne Klein suggested a feedback on MUJI in our web page. Mike Petrogeorge suggested a CLE on this after they come out. Bar Journal article.

Annual Meeting (June 27-29). Frank Carney reported that we are on track for the Annual Meeting with David Ball, Ph.D. speaking in four separate breakout sections on jury persuasion from a drama perspective. We also have arranged for David Leta to speak on collecting judgments.

Resignations/New Members. Christy Romero and Brent Manning have resigned from the Executive Committee. Brent Manning proposed his partner Lee Curtis as a new member and the Executive Committee agreed to add Lee to our group. Nan Bassett at Kipp & Christian is a possibility and Mike Petrogeorge will contact her.. We also discussed putting another judge on the committee and possibly holding occasional meetings at the Matheson Courthouse.

CLE Speakers. FJC will contact Judge Herb Stern re a possible seminar in November or December. Clay Simms is on committee for New Lawyer CLE and suggested we tie this in with new lawyer CLE.

Status of Web Page. Discussion deferred.

MJP Rule. Discussion deferred.

Trial Academy (October 4- 5). Discussion deferred.

St. George Golf and CLE. Discussion deferred in the absence of Deno Himonas. Wayne Klein suggested a full discount for Southern Utah members.

Next meeting. Our next meeting was set for 8:00 am on Wednesday, April 10th..

There being no other business to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 8:45 a.m.
