Minutes of July 10, 2002 Meeting |
| Litigation Section
Executive Committee The Executive Committee of the Litigation Section met on Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at 8:00 a.m., at the Utah Court of Appeals, Matheson Courthouse, in Salt Lake City. Attendance. Executive Committee members present were Bruce Badger (Chair), Willis Orton, Deno Himonas, Judge Pam Greenwood, Tracy Fowler, Wayne Klein, Mike Petrogeorge, Clay Simms, and Frank Carney. Bryan Pattison in St. George attended by speakerphone. Approval of Minutes. The minutes from the June 12th meeting were reviewed and approved. Executive Committee Members. We again discussed our need to have a member from Northern Utah. Brian Babcock is to speak with Miles Jensen. Deno Himonas will speak with Judge Randy Skanchy about joining. Members of Executive Committee. Frank Carney has spoken with Janet Goldstein and her resignation was accepted, with our thanks for all her hard work. There is also a need for Executive Committee members from Ogden and Provo. Quarterly Emails to Section Members. We agreed to send out quarterly emails to all Section members advising them of the status of Litigation Section projects and events. Annual Meeting. Frank Carney reviewed the status of Annual Meeting preparations. MUJI. We decided not to pursue the recovery of the $4,800 with John Young for printing the MUJI-Criminal instructions for the trial judges to review. Trial Academy: October 4th and 5th. Frank Carney reported that preparations are underway. St. George Golf 'n CLE: November 8th. This is set for Friday, November 8th at the Sunbrook Country Club. Willis Orton, Deno Himonas, and Bryan Pattison are in charge of the plans. Deno Himonas discussed the potential topic of corporate scandals as the basis for the CLE. Deno will provide a curriculum and Willis the proposed costs. Golf would start at 1:00. The Southern Utah Bar will be asked to co-sponsor but we will cover all costs. CLE on Appellate Practice: December 19th. Mike Petrogeorge discussed the status of this event. We discussed participants on the panel: Judge Pam Greenwood, Judges Durrant or Wilkins, Kate Toomey, and a judge from the Tenth Circuit. Debra Moore is unable to participate but recommended Fred Vorsos from the Attorney General’s office. Judges’ Benchbook. We again discussed the need for continued efforts to get judges interviewed. Bryan Pattison and members of his firm will attempt to interview the judges in St. George and Cedar City. Legal Assistants as Associate Members. The Legal Assistants Division wishes to have its members participate in our CLEs– they do not, contrary to what we originally thought, want to join as members. We agreed to offer member discount to all LAD members who wish to attend our CLEs. We will add them to our email list for CLEs. September Section Meeting. Bruce Badger will put together a September luncheon meeting of the entire Section. Next meeting. Our next meeting was set for 8:00 am on Wednesday, August 14th, at the Utah Law & Justice Center The meeting adjourned at 9:00 a.m. DATED this _____ day of August, 2002.
