The Litigation Section has over 1,100 members and is thus the largest voluntary section of the State Bar. All newly-admitted members of the Utah State Bar are automatically
members of the Litigation Section dues-free for their first year. Thereafter, Section membership is $25.00 per year. The Litigation Section conducts its business through its Executive Committee. Some of its
many projects:
*Promoting quality CLE on litigation-oriented topics *Sponsoring speakers at the Mid-Year and Annual meetings of the Bar *Publishing the Model Utah Jury Instructions
*Conducting the ever-popular "Trial Academy" in even years *Sponsoring the "Judges' Bench Book" on the courtroom preferences of Utah trial judges
*Purchasing video and audio CLE tapes for the use of its members *Sponsoring the "Mentors" internet page on practice and procedure issues
*Providing expert commentary on litigation-oriented legislation *Keepingthe bar membership informedof significant changes to the rules of procedure and evidence
The purpose of the Litigation Section is to seek the participation of all interested members of the Bar and of local bar associations in order to: (1) provide the
opportunity and forum for the interchange of ideas in the area of litigation by sponsoring various programs and seminars and other forms of continuing legal education; (2) assist the judiciary in
litigation-related projects and issues; (3) undertake such other services or projects as may be of benefit to the members, the legal profession and the public; and, (4) promote the sound
development of ethical and professional litigation practices.
