IP Moot Court Competitions |
| Several moot
court competitions and writing
competitions are dedicated to introducing students to intellectual property
law. Members of the IP Section of the Utah State Bar work in conjunction
with the law schools in Utah to support two of the moot court competitions:
the Giles Sutherland Rich Memorial Moot Court Competition and the Saul Lefkowitz
Moot Court Competition. The Giles
Sutherland Rich Memorial Moot Court Competition, which is organized
by the American Intellectual Property Law
Association (AIPLA), is primarily patent focused. The Saul
Lefkowitz Moot Court Competition, which is organized by the International
Trademark Association (INTA), is focused on trademark law and unfair
competition. Students representing the law schools in Utah in these moot court competitions compete at the respective regional competitions (in Northern California for both competitions). If they are successful at the regionals then they proceed to the respective national competition (in Washington, D.C. for both competitions). Financial support for the students to participate is provided primarily by law firms in Salt Lake City. We thank them for their contribution to Utah's IP community. Students at both law schools interested in learning more about these
moot court competitions are encouraged to contact their Student Intellectual
Property Law Association (SIPLA) leaders or their faculty members focused
on intellectual property law. Information is also available at the websites
of their respective SIPLA organizations. The SIPLA websites are: www.utah.edu/sipla
for the S.J. Quinney College of Law
and http://www.law2.byu.edu/Organizations/Sipla/
for the J. Reuben Clark
Law School. The students from law schools in Utah who have participated
in the Giles Sutherland Rich Memorial Moot Court Competition are listed
by year: 2009,2008, 2007, 2006,
2005, 2004, 2003
and 2002. |
