Business Conducted
Kellie Williams announced the date and time of the summer social: June
24,2005 beginning at 5:30 p.m. in her home located at 1118 Bonneville
Drive. Brooke Bruno, a member of the State Bar staff assigned to the pro
bono section, addressed the
Committee. She said that she or someone else from her staff would like
to attend the monthly CLE luncheons of the Section in an effort to recruit
attorneys to represent pro bono clients.
Louise Knauer reported that the Section has $1 1,301 in its account,
exclusive of the net receipts from the annual seminar in May. Louise reported
that Justice for All has asked for a contribution of $3,000 from the Section.
Stewart Ralphs moved to contribute $3,000 to the program. The motion was
seconded and was approved unanimously.
Louise informed the Committee that the University of Utah Law School
had asked for the
Section's co-sponsorship for its Family Law Symposium to be held in September.
Judge Hilder moved that the Section contribute $500 if it were listed
as a co-sponsor. He also moved that we make the Section's membership list
available to the Law School, if it wishes to invite members to attend
the Symposium. The motion was seconded and approved unanimously.
Judge Hilder informed the EC of the proposed policy of the 3rd District
Court
concerning the use of Commissioners in Summit County. He provided a recent
letter on the subject signed by Judge Peuler. He reported that there is
a possibility that a fifth commissioner will be appointed for the Third
District. Until such a commissioner is appointed, the Third District Court
in Salt Lake will send a commissioner to Coalville two mornings per month.
He also reported that under the newly adopted policy, a stipulation by
the parties in a Summit County case, could result in a hearing before
a commissioner in Salt Lake City. He stated that in the future there may
he funding available to finish the second court room at the Silver Summit
Court House.
The Committee considered nominations for chair-elect. Russ Minas was
nominated and
unanimously elected.
The Committee considered possible new members. It was moved and seconded
that Christina Miller be appointed to represent the Fourth District and

as at-large members. The motion to appoint the indicated individuals was
seconded and approved unanimously.
