MEETING MINUTES
FAMILY LAW SECTION EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
February 14, 2007

PRESENT: Christina Miller, Adam Caldwell, Judge Hilder, Doug Adair, Rob Parrish, Rick Hummel, Steve Gunn, John Sheaffer, Helen Christian, Marcie Keck, Angela Fonnesbeck, Lauren Barros, Kellie Williams, Stewart Ralphs, Dena Sarandos, Comm. Blomquist, Russ Minas, Al Pranno, Charlotte Meacham

Approval of Minutes. The minutes from the January 2007 meeting were read. Helen moved to adopt, Marcie seconded. Unanimously approved as drafted.

Legislative Update. (Judges and commissioners abstained from all votes)

SB 248 Sub 1. (In Loco Parentis). The EC unanimously voted to oppose. (Bill later withdrawn due to Jones v. Barlow decision.

HB 128 (Divorce Orientation). The EC previously voted to opposes this bill. However it was amended. The EC voted against supporting the amended bill with 7 ayes and 9 nays, but did vote to not oppose the bill with 12 ayes, 4 nays.

HB 342 (Pets in Protective Orders) The EC unanimously votes to support this bill so long as the term “custody” of pets was changes to “possession” of pets.

HB 283 (Continuances of Protective Order Hearings) The EC voted to support the bill if allowing continuances for exigent circumstances is included.

Membership. Russ Minas nominated Rick Hummel as the 2007-08 chair. Rick accepted the nomination. The nomination was seconded by many. Rick was unanimously voted to be the next chair.

Monthly CLE Luncheons. The next luncheon is scheduled for March 30th. Louise is lining up a speaker for that luncheon. The April luncheon is covered. Kathy Elton will do a presentation on working with the mediation office of the Administrative Office of the Courts.

Spring Seminar. The Speakers are all lined up for the two breakouts sessions our section is responsible for at the Spring Seminar.

Annual Seminar. The Annual Seminar committee has pretty much filled the slots. The seminar is on for Friday May 11, 2007 at Law & Justice Center and will be available by simulcast.

Annual Meeting. Steve Gunn is serving on the Annual Convention committee. The family law section is responsible for two breakout sessions.
