MEETING MINUTES
FAMILY LAW SECTION EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
August 9, 2006

PRESENT: Rick Hummel, Christina Miller (by phone), Stewart Ralphs, Angela Fonnesbeck, Dena Sarandos, Steve Gunn, Judge Hilder, John Sheaffer, Louise Knauer, Russ Minas, Al Pranno, Adam Trupp Guest: Lori Nelson

Approval of Minutes. The minutes from the April 2006 meeting were read and approved as drafted.
Bar Liaison Report. Lori Nelson reported that she has been assigned as the bar liaison for the Family Law Section. It was confirmed that the Section can take a position on legislation on with the approval of the Bar. If we need a quick decision form the Bar Commission, we need to email Lori who can post to the Commission ListServ for an immediate response. Make sure to “red flag” the email to Lori.

Lori also mention that the Bar is considering a new diversion program on certain disciplinary matters. More information to follow.
Another issue before the Bar Commission is the question of whether malpractice insurance should be mandatory. More information to follow.

Membership. Stewart moved and Louise seconded a motion to amend the by-laws to create a specific membership position a juvenile court judge. The motion carried unanimously.

Lauren Barros was nominated as an at-large member by Louise. Judge Hilder seconded. The motion passed unanimously. Russ to call Lauren to invite her to the next meeting.

The EC needs a second district representative. Doug Adair’s name was mentioned. Russ to contact Doug to see if he would be interested in joining the EC.

Several names of those in attendance were suggested as vice-chair. Nobody in attendance was willing to accept. Susan Bradford was nominated in her absence. Russ to call Susan to follow-up.

Committee Assignments. Tabled. The EC will take another look at committee assignments at the September meeting. It was agreed that a Fall Forum committee should be established. A listing of current committee assignments is set forth below.
Monthly CLE Luncheons. For August Lisa Reading will do a presentation on special masters. Louise is trying to line up Cecilia Wainryb for September. Louise to follow up on reserving rooms for the upcoming business year.
Annual Seminar. We need to pick a date to reserve the Law & Justice Center for the annual may seminar. Russ to follow up with the Bar.

Legislative Update. Stewart reported on a number of proposed bills in the works for the next legislative session, including a revised in loco parentis bill, a dating violence bill, a new child support bill which would include capping child support increases, a new parent time bill, a divorce orientation bill, a financial declarations when filing bill, and a bill concerning modifications of divorce decrees. Stewart will keep the EC informed as necessary.

Internet Usage/On-Line Resources. Tabled. Lincoln Mead to be invited to join the September EC meeting.
