Licensing Information for Firm Administrators

Dear Firm or Office Administrator,

We are writing to remind you that the 2011-2012 Utah State Bar license renewals will now be done only on-line.  Sealed notices will be sent during the first week in June to each lawyer with a case-sensitive login and password.   Each lawyer will need to complete and submit the electronic renewal individually.   Licensing forms will no longer be mailed out by the Bar.

Once the form is submitted, the lawyer may then pay on-line with a credit card or he or she may pay with a check by mail if he or she prints out the completed renewal form and mails it in with  the check.  If an attorney chooses to pay by check, the renewal will not be accepted until both the completed form with all mandatory information and the check payment has been received.  (There will be a $20 charge on returned checks.)

If payment is being made by check, both the completed form and the payment  must be postmarked on or before July 31, 2011 or a $100 Late Fee will be assessed.  If both have not been received by 5:00 pm on August 31, 2011, the lawyer will be administratively suspended for failure to renew and a $200 Reinstatement Fee will be assessed.

Check Payment By Firms for Multiple Attorneys

A firm or organization may pay for multiple attorneys with a single check but will need to send in the check along with a form showing the total amount paid for each attorney form so that the Bar will know how to allocate fees, dues and contributions for everyone covered by that check. (A sample report is provided below)  Attorneys or firm administrators should retain a copy of each completed licensing form for their records in case there is a discrepancy with the payment process.

Fee Payment Plan

Receipt letters and Bar Card stickers will be sent back as a confirmation of the completion of the renewal process. Please allow for up to 3 weeks to receive these receipt letters.

Licensing Fees for 2011 - 2012

Please also note that the Supreme Court has approved the Bar's petition to increase licensing fees for the first time in 20 years.  The new license fees are as follows:
  • Active - $425.00
  • Active Under 3 - $250.00
  • Inactive - Full Service (Included Bar Journal, Free Casemaker Legal Research, Mailings  and Notices) - $150.00
  • Inactive - No Service - $105.00
Active fees must also include a $20 assessment for the Client Security Fund.

If you have any questions, please contact onlineservices@utahbar.org or 801-297-7051.  License information may be found at   www.utahbar.org/licensing .

Thank you.
