The Salt Lake City Attorney’s Office serves as legal counsel to the City Administration and City Council. The office has an opening in the civil division for a Senior City Attorney. The opportunity involves cutting edge legal work representing the largest municipal government in the state. Compensation will vary depending upon qualifications and experience. The position could terminate on or after January 1, 2016, depending upon the availability of continued funding.

The position involves advising the Police Department and preference will be given to candidates with experience advising law enforcement on policy and transactional matters. It is also desired for candidates to have experience in municipal law generally, including constitutional law, transactional work, and litigation.

The position also involves drafting and reviewing ordinances and resolutions, preparing legal opinions, and drafting and reviewing contracts, as well as advising elected officials, department directors, City employees, and City boards and commissions on legal matters.

Minimum Qualifications:

The position requires a JD or LL.B. degree and six (6) years of paid post-graduation legal experience.

Candidates must also be members, in good standing, of the Utah State Bar (or have the ability to timely obtain a Utah State Bar license through reciprocity).
