The Utah State Bar is seeking applications for the staff position of Communications Director. The position will create a vibrant social media presence and generate regular content for all types of media to raise public awareness of Bar events, programs and services and ensure that citizens of Utah look to lawyers for help with their legal issues and to present the Bar as a vital resource for legal news and resources. The position will also coordinate internal Bar communications to make lawyers aware of events and activities and of opportunities for involvement in Bar projects and services and to publicize the availability and value of the various group benefit programs.
Working with Bar leadership and staff to design and execute an integrated communications and social media strategy and to ensure timing and uniformity of messaging across Bar publications, websites, and social media platforms. Designing and implementing energetic marketing in public and social media and creating internal communications campaigns which raise awareness among Bar members of the services, benefits, and volunteer opportunities available while developing a powerful sense of community among lawyers and a connection to the mission of the Bar.
Applicants must have experience with various digital and other media with technological fluency and broad communications, organizational and collaboration skills. A BS/MS degree in Marketing or Communications is required. Familiarity with the legal profession and the judicial system and/or non-profit sector is helpful. Broad written and verbal communication skills; creative thinking and analytical abilities; outstanding team building and collaborative skills; strong attention to detail; effective relationship-building skills when working with media outlets, government agencies, outside organizations, Bar leadership and Bar sections, committees and local legal-related service organizations; ability to be self-motivated and take initiative while responding to appropriate direction from management; ability to effectively manage resources against project budgets, timelines, and scope; excellent understanding of digital marketing and analytics; experience managing SEO/SEM; technical skills in developing graphic layouts for print and online content; outstanding project management skills and the ability to balance between overall goals and discreet task elements.
