James Tanner has a private practice of law, with Richard Tanner,
in Tooele, Utah. He has an emphasis on employment law. He routinely
represents federal and other public employees in discharge and other
discipline cases. He represents clients in cases involving the loss
of a license or security clearance, reduction in force, and performance
cases. For a period of fifteen years, he previously represented his
federal agency client in a number of arbitration proceedings and appearances
before administrative judges from the Merit Systems Protection Board
and the Equal Opportunity Commission. He represents state, county,
city, and other public employees, in discipline and discharge cases,
performance matters, and other adverse actions. He represents a number
of private sector employees on issues including discharge and other
discipline issues, performance matters, loss of license or security
clearance, and other adverse actions. He routinely handles discrimination
cases involving age, gender, disability, race, national origin, sexual
harassment and hostile work environment.
Mr. Tanner opened his private
law practice in 1998, after he retired from federal government service.
In his private practice, he has had the opportunity to represent
a number of clients, on employment law matters, throughout the State
of Utah. As time permits, he handles criminal defense and other general
practice matters. Mr. Tanner is a member of the Utah State Bar and
he is admitted to practice before Utah state courts and the Federal
District Court for the District of Utah. He is a graduate of Kansas
State University (B.S. Psychology), Washburn University (Juris Doctorate),
and Utah State University (Masters Degree, Child and Family Development).
