21st Century Courtroom

and Law Practice

Jim McConkie of Parker & McConkie (in conjunction with iSys Global Solutions) will present the latest in video, audio and computer technology designed for the legal world.

----------------------------------------

During the last twenty-five years of 20th century, computer automation became a staple in the practice of law. Because of this technology, it became easier to organize and stay on top of cases. However, much in the courtroom remained the same. Trials moved slowly as paper and print dominated the evidence presented to juries.

In the past 10 years the world has changed dramatically. Newspapers, mail, and paper print are out of fashion. Today, most people get their news and information electronically, from the internet, television, you-tube, twitter, face-book and so on. Few people really read. As a result, juries are becoming more obstreperous and difficult to deal with. Their attention spans have shortened.

So, what is the answer?

In a 21st Century law practice and courtroom, computers and video will be used far more extensively than they have in the past. Attorneys will now present their cases they way TV anchormen do the news. The filming of depositions, expert witness statements and client meetings will soon be the norm rather than the exception. Through the use of video for training, mock trials and out-of-court settlements, attorneys are becoming better and more successful. The combination of computer and video speeds trials and even reduces the number of cases that go to trial.

Today, courtroom events can automatically be filmed from 4 or 5 vantage points without the help of a videographer. When newer technology is used, the attendant video is immediately available to judges, juries and legal counsel for review.

Modern video technology offers the following:

1. Inexpensive solutions

2. High quality video and audio

3. Easy to use (trained videographers are no longer required)

4. Multiple camera’s and microphones may be used to capture events from every angle

5. Storage of and access to videos is secure, automated, easy and inexpensive

--------------------------------------------

Again, Jim McConkie (of Parker & McConkie) will discuss and demonstrate the latest in video, audio and attendant computer solutions for the legal world.
