The Disability Law Center (DLC) is the only statewide disability agency in Utah that provides self-advocacy assistance, legal services, disability rights education and public policy advocacy on behalf of the 400,000+ Utahns with disabilities. The DLC has broad statutory powers to safeguard the rights of people with disabilities. Our mission is to enforce and strengthen the laws that protect the rights of citizens with disabilities in Utah through legal advocacy. The work of the DLC focuses on four long-range goals:
People with disabilities will be free from abuse and neglect.
People with disabilities will receive appropriate services.
People with disabilities will be free from discrimination.
People with disabilities will have equal employment opportunities.
The Disability Law Center currently has an opening for the Managing Attorney. This position is responsible for developing the direction of the legal program for the DLC and to develop a strategic vision for the overall delivery of legal services to people with disabilities. In addition, the Managing Attorney is responsible for managing the legally-based advocacy of attorneys and advocates, as well as ensuring the appropriateness of cases and legal work and that the DLC’s advocacy is of the highest quality. The Managing Attorney is responsible to monitor individual case selection, handle client grievances and represent the DLC to the legal and broader community, as well as developing a long-range plan for legal advocacy. Candidates should have at least five years experience in the practice of law, (disability or civil rights law preferred) and must have demonstrated management, leadership, and supervisory skills. Candidates should have a strong commitment to civil rights, an understanding of the needs of people with disabilities and a passion for justice. All candidates must have a license to practice law in the state of Utah or be willing to take the next regularly scheduled Utah Bar Exam.
