In lieu of our June monthly meeting, please make every effort attend our June 13, 2009 social for the Juneteenth and Loving Day picnic at Sugarhouse Park co-sponsored by the U of U's Minority Law Caucus from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.. If you are planning to attend the Summer Social, please contact Chrystal Mancuso-Smith at cmancuso@dunndunn.com or 801-521-6677 to coordinate. The event will be a pot-luck and should be a great way for us to reconnect and to enjoy some of the early summer sunshine.
Juneteenth celebrates passage of the Thirteenth Amendment, ending slavery. Loving Day celebrates the Loving v. Virginia decision, which ended state bans on interracial marriage. Last year’s inaugural picnic was a great fun and about 150 people attended (managing to find their way to a remote section of Mill Creek Canyon).
