This position will provide legal counsel on a variety of legal and regulatory matters for Intermountain Healthcare, its employees, and its subsidiaries. This position is a system-wide role, reporting to the V.P. of Legal and General Counsel for Intermountain Healthcare.
Primary responsibilities will include:
1. Providing contracting strategies for compliance with governmental regulations, state and federal law, and internal policies.
2. Drafting and reviewing contracts and agreements on a wide variety of health care related matters; including but not limited to physician/hospital contracts, vendor contracts, graduate medical education affiliation contracts, physicians/hospital lease agreements, etc.
3. Participating in and providing legal counsel to various committees, boards and task forces.
Secondary responsibilities will include:
1. Providing legal advice for medical staff issues, including credentialing, by-laws and disciplinary hearings.
2. Representing the organization at internal and external administrative hearings.
3. Providing legal advice for EMTALA issues.
Applicant must have a Juris Doctor degree with excellent academic credentials and be admitted to the Utah State Bar or be willing to sit for the Utah State Bar exam.
Preference will be given to applicants with ten or more years of health law compliance experience either in an in-house or law firm setting.
Extensive experience in handling a wide range of healthcare contract issues, including drafting and negotiating physician/hospital contracts, physician/hospital lease agreements and vendor contracts is required.
Extensive knowledge of applicable healthcare regulatory requirements and the legal aspects of physician/hospital contracting is required (Stark, anti-kickback, fraud & abuse, private inurement).
A working knowledge of medical staff issues, JCAHO standards, EMTALA, and GME issues is required.
Must have excellent written and oral communication skills and be able to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders in the organization (management, physicians, compliance, hospital administrators, etc.).
