During its regularly scheduled meeting of August 18, 2000, which was held in Salt Lake City, Utah, the Board of Bar Commissioners received the following reports and took the actions indicated.

1. The Commission met with all members of the Supreme Court. They reviewed the MDP Task Force Report, discussed Pro Hac Vice fees, reviewed cash flow projections and reviewed the Task Force on Bar Governance.

2. Calendar review of coming events: Minority Bar Dinner will be held October 20, 2000 at the Law & Justice Center with Judge Richard Paez as the speaker. October Commission meeting will be held at BYU Law School on Friday, October 27, 2000 at 9:00 a.m.

3. It was noted that Martha W. Barnett has been elected as the second female ABA President. The ABA’ s Standing Committee on Legal Aid and Indigent Defendants Division are having a regional meeting on improving legal services for the poor on November 3, 2000 in Salt Lake City..

4. Review of Ethics Advisory Opinion 00-05. After discussion, the Comission voted that the opinion be sent back to the Ethics Committee with the suggestion to insert a footnote to address the Commission's concerns and further clarify the opinion.

5. Discussion was held on the Legal Defense Policy. The Commission voted to adopt the formal written policy, which extends professional liability insurance coverage for attorney volunteers who serve on various Bar committees, participate in Tuesday Night Bar, and for attorneys who are called upon to be a witness in a Bar proceeding.

6. Discussion was held on the Review Process to Implement Recommendations of the Supreme Court Task Force on Racial and Ethnic Fairness.

7. Minutes of the July 12th and July 28th, 2000 Commission meetings were approved.

8. Nominations were made for the Fourth and Fifth District Nominating Commissions.
