During its regularly scheduled meeting of September 29, 2000, which was held in Salt Lake City, the Board of Bar Commissioners received the following reports and took the actions indicated:

1. Denise Dragoo reviewed the Leadership Training Seminar and noted that the presenter, Mark Levin, would focus on recruiting and retaining successful volunteers. Goals of the Seminar are: (1) to thank Bar leaders for their service with an opportunity to mingle with Commissioners and others; (2) let Bar leaders know where the Commissioners’ attentions are; (3) give Bar leaders tools, e.g., a booklet which could serve as a resource.

2. David Nuffer introduced the Young Lawyers Division replacement for Dan Garrison who will be leaving shortly for an opportunity in Phoenix. Stephen Owens will step into the Young Lawyers Division. The Commission presented the departing public member, Terri Cook, with a plaque thanking her for her service to the Bar.

3. Gary Sackett presented Ethics Opinion number 00-06. After review and discussion the Opinion was approved.

4. The Board reviewed the proposal on Commentary to Expert Witness Contact Ethics Opinion. (Ethics Opinion 00-03 approved may 28, 1999).

5. The Commission reviewed the MDP Task Force Status Report. After discussion on a number of issues related to MDP (advertising concerns, attorney client privilege issues, etc.) Dave Nuffer asked that the report be published in the next Bar Journal. The Task Force is expected to meet with the Supreme Court and hopefully will be ready to present the proposed rule changes by next spring.
