I am excited to run for a seat on the Utah Bar Commission. In 1986-1987, I had the privilege of serving as President of the Young Lawyers Section as an ex officio member of the Bar Commission for a year. This opportunity gave me insight into the workings of the Bar. 1987 was a pivotal time for the Bar. It was building the new Law and Justice Center and charting a new course. I served on the Programming Committee and the Governance Committee of the Bar, which helped determine the course of the Bar for these past 25 years.

I’m now a little older, and hopefully wiser. If I am fortunate enough to be elected, I will bring my years of experience to the Bar Commission and work ensure that the Bar continues to serve its members in an efficient and effective manner.

I have practiced law in Salt Lake City for the past 33 years. During that time I have tried to give back to the community by serving as President of the Alumni Board of U Law School, Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Pioneer Theatre Company, Member of the Executive Committee of the 2014 Zoo, Arts and Parks (ZAP) Tax Renewal Committee, Chair of the Salt Lake City Managing Attorneys Association, Adjunct Professor at BYU Law School (teaching law practice management), and other good things. Yes, at one time I had both a U license plate and a BYU parking sticker on my car. I have concluded my service on most of these matters, and I now have the time and energy to serve on the Bar Commission. For more information about me, see my bio at www.utahlaw.com.

I will bring a lifetime of experience and perspective to the Bar Commission. I have worked in the largest law firm in Utah. I have also started and managed a law firm, which over the past 22 years has grown from 2 to 90 attorneys, with offices throughout Utah and in Southern Nevada. As a result, I feel I have a good grasp of the concerns of lawyers in all sizes of law firms, as well as in other practice settings. If I am elected, my goal will be to ensure all lawyers receive good value for their bar dues and to maintain the reputation and integrity of the Bar.

I’m grateful to the following attorneys who know me and have (still) enthusiastically endorsed me:

Jim Jardine Robert Hyde Ray Etcheverry
Steve Clyde Richard Davis Steve Swindle
Richard Burbidge Elaina Maragakis Matthew Lalli
Randy Dryer Diane Banks David Broadbent
Tim Conde Rick Johnson Steve Marsden
Steve Dougherty Clark Taylor Jessica Peterson
Jeff Hunt Oscar McConkie, III Jeff Silvestrini
Erin Middleton Vicki Baldwin Kevin Pinegar
Ian Davis Greg Barrick Russell Fericks

I ask for your vote for Bar Commissioner in the upcoming special election. Please take the time to vote. Your vote matters.

Thank you!
